Movie Marathon

May 1, 2009

May 1, Labor Day, Holiday = stayed at home and had an EPIC movie marathon:

Evil Dead 2 - Much more entertaining than the first. Bruce Campbell is clearly more seasoned and feels more comfortable to watch here. Nice blend of comedy, gore and horror with more polished effects. That hand-having-a-life-of-its-own schtick was full of win. Groovy. 7/10

Army of Darkness - I actually saw this around a decade ago and remember loving it a lot. Now that I’ve seen the first two parts, the premise of it all seems a tad bit ridiculous, but it’s still all great comedic fun… even if it’s a bit slapstick much. Emebth Davis is the hottest chick to have been featured in any of the three films. 6/10

What’s Up Tiger Lily? - Woody Allen’s directorial debut, though not “proper film”… It’s a japanese spy film ala-007 dubbed with english dialogue that devolves the plot to the search for an egg salad recepie. Haha. A novel idea at the time, I bet. Quite crazy and silly. Intermittently hilarious and corny. 4/10

Chinatown - Nothing exceptionally special about it for the most part, but way everything comes together and wraps up is intense. The story is engaging although a bit sophisticated for my sensibilities. Nicholson and Dunaway turn in charming performances. 7/10

Fargo - Wow. Great story, excellent ensemble and very well directed. Solid and steady throughout. Everything was just right. Can’t belive I put off watching this for the longest time. The only thing that’s stopping me from saying it’s perfect is that it doesn’t really evoke any strong emotion or overwhelming reaction from me. It’s just a great thing to watch. Yeah? … Yah! 9/10

Requiem For A Dream - Intense, yet heavy-handed with mesmerizing visuals - as are most Aronofsky films. The way how the characters gradually degrade throughout the film is compelling. Mansell’s musical score pwns. 8/10

Blade Runner - Even though the film is as old as I am, I was amazed at the visuals. Definitely one of the most visually captivating films I’ve ever seen. The whole futuristic environment was beautifully constructed, and I loved the low-key lighting combined with the smokey atmosphere. Synthy sounds reminded me of Pink Floyd’s “Shine On You Crazy Diamond” for the most part. The plot was good; but not mindblowing, maybe because it isn’t new to me. There were a lot of parallelisms to Battlestar Galactica (2004), which I loved. But that part at the end where Batty saves Deckard was a great touch with regards to the story and characters, imho. 8.5/10

Venus and Mars are funny

April 11, 2009

This deserves lots of LOL’s =)

WHY MEN ARE SUPERIOR:
A five-day vacation requires only one suitcase.
You can leave the motel bed unmade.
You can kill your own food.
You get extra credit for the slightest act of thoughtfulness.
If someone forgets to invite you to something, he or she can still be your friend.
Your underwear is $8.95 for a three-pack.
You can quietly enjoy a car ride from the passenger seat.
Three pairs of shoes are more than enough.
You can quietly watch a game with your buddy for hours without ever thinking: “He must be mad at me.”
You can drop by to see a friend without having to bring a little gift.
If another guy shows up at the party in the same outfit, you just might become lifelong friends.
You are not expected to know the names of more than five colors.
You don’t have to stop and think of which way to turn a nut on bolt.
You almost never have strap problems in public.
You are unable to see wrinkles in your clothes.
The same hairstyle lasts for years, maybe decades.
You don’t have to shave below your neck.
One wallet and one pair of shoes, one color, all seasons.
You can do your nails with a pocketknife.
You have freedom of choice concerning growing a mustache.
Christmas shopping can be accomplished for 25 relatives, December 24th, in 45 minutes.
The world is your urinal.

WHY WOMEN ARE SUPERIOR:
We got off the Titanic first.
We can scare male bosses with mysterious gynecological disorder excuses.
When we buy a vibrator it is glamorous. When men buy a blow up doll it’s pathetic.
Men’s clothes make women look elfin and gorgeous. Men look like complete idiots in women’s clothes.
We can be groupies. Male groupies are stalkers.
We’ve never lusted after a cartoon character or the central figure in a computer game.
Taxi’s stop for us.
We don’t look like a frog in a blender when dancing.
We know the Truth about whether or not size matters.
No fashion faux pas we make could ever rival the male’s Speedo.
We don’t have to fart to amuse ourselves.
We never have to wonder if his orgasm was real.
We can congratulate our teammate without ever grabbing her ass.
If we have a zit, we know how to conceal it.
We never have to reach down every so often to make sure our privates are still there.
We don’t have to memorize Caddyshack or Fletch to fit in.
Gay waiters don’t make us uncomfortable.
We’ll never regret piercing our ears.

Nothing to Say

April 9, 2009

It’s weird how people have lots to say when things aren’t looking up and have little to say when things are fine and dandy.

Capiche? ^_^

I’ll try to fill up this blog in the way it was during its “prime” (circa 2007? =p) though not necessarily with the same nature of its contents. Just because I want to want to write.

a series of intersecting lives and incidents

January 14, 2009

from the curious case of benjamin button:

Sometimes we’re on a collision course, and we just don’t know it. Whether it’s by accident or by design, there’s not a thing we can do about it. A woman in Paris was on her way to go shopping, but she had forgotten her coat - went back to get it. When she had gotten her coat, the phone had rung, so she’d stopped to answer it; talked for a couple of minutes. While the woman was on the phone, Daisy was rehearsing for a performance at the Paris Opera House. And while she was rehearsing, the woman, off the phone now, had gone outside to get a taxi. Now a taxi driver had dropped off a fare earlier and had stopped to get a cup of coffee. And all the while, Daisy was rehearsing. And this cab driver, who dropped off the earlier fare; who’d stopped to get the cup of coffee, had picked up the lady who was going to shopping, and had missed getting an earlier cab. The taxi had to stop for a man crossing the street, who had left for work five minutes later than he normally did, because he forgot to set off his alarm. While that man, late for work, was crossing the street, Daisy had finished rehearsing, and was taking a shower. And while Daisy was showering, the taxi was waiting outside a boutique for the woman to pick up a package, which hadn’t been wrapped yet, because the girl who was supposed to wrap it had broken up with her boyfriend the night before, and forgot.

When the package was wrapped, the woman, who was back in the cab, was blocked by a delivery truck, all the while Daisy was getting dressed. The delivery truck pulled away and the taxi was able to move, while Daisy, the last to be dressed, waited for one of her friends, who had broken a shoelace. While the taxi was stopped, waiting for a traffic light, Daisy and her friend came out the back of the theater. And if only one thing had happened differently: if that shoelace hadn’t broken; or that delivery truck had moved moments earlier; or that package had been wrapped and ready, because the girl hadn’t broken up with her boyfriend; or that man had set his alarm and got up five minutes earlier; or that taxi driver hadn’t stopped for a cup of coffee; or that woman had remembered her coat, and got into an earlier cab, Daisy and her friend would’ve crossed the street, and the taxi would’ve driven by. But life being what it is - a series of intersecting lives and incidents, out of anyone’s control - that taxi did not go by, and that driver was momentarily distracted, and that taxi hit Daisy, and her leg was crushed.

this is beautiful

January 5, 2009

“There are millions of people in the world, and none of those people is an extra. They’re all leads of their own stories.”

I’m just a little person
One person in the sea
Of many little people
Who are not aware of me
