beowulf
November 19, 2007[warning: might contain some minor spoilers]
I saw Beowulf with Mau last night, and we agreed that the film was not really all that.
I don't think it was necessary to make the movie fully animated. It did give the filmmakers the opportunity to create some funky sequences every now and then, but I don't think any of it were substantial to the film. I really think it would have been a better film if it were done in live action, and they simply pumped it with all sorts of special effects ala-Lord of the Rings.
And what was up with the conversations of Grendel and his mom not having subtitles??? I mean, those were pretty lengthy sequences and they were - for the most part - incomprehensible. WTF were they talking about?!?
Also, Beowulf (the character) can be summed up pretty well with two things: 1) He usually has nothing better to say than "I AM BEOWULF!!!"; and, 2) He likes to take his clothes off a lot.
Damn, we should have just seen Superbad.
nilundag ko na, beybe
November 18, 2007Last Thursday, I finally bought my first DSLR. And to go along with the practice of some of my friends… as well as to pay homage to Marco Sison hit song (lol)… I shall give it a name and continue calling her "Aida". But let's change the pronunciation a bit and pronounce it as "ey-da" as opposed to "ay-da".
I didn't get the cam with its kit lens though, as it was unavailable. I just got the body and purchased a different lens elsewhere. Yup, the "pancake" lens. I have yet to think of a name for it though… if I do give it a name.
So yesterday, I went to the baptism of Gabo's second kid, Gariz (aka "Pitoy" [LOL]) and I got a few good shots to show for it. Here are my favorites from the set (just click on the images to enlarge):
lundagin mo beybe
November 15, 2007So I've been going back and forth with this camera thing for the past several weeks: I've posted threads on forums, canvassed items from different shops, compared specs and prices, analyzed certain features, etc, etc… and I've learned that on the balance of getting the most bang for the buck, some options really come out almost even. There are pros and cons either way; and like I've said, this camera buying thing really is a test of one's decision-making skills.
Actually, I already came to my decision. I was supposedly going to get the K100D kit (aka "Aida") already last week, but the people at the shop said that they have no stock of the kit lens. Bummer. Also, they're still waiting for the next shipment and don't know when it's gonna arrive. Double bummer.
On Saturday, I'll probably be going to the baptism of a friend's second child (inaanak ko yung panganay, so more reson to go ^_^)… and I suddenly thought: PHOTO OP! Hehehe. So now I'm thinking if I should act already on my second option (Aida with the pancake lens) and just purchase already.
In times like these, the wisdom of Father Roque Ferriols S.J. seems to shine through: "Lundagin mo beybe!" Ibig sabihin, gawin mo… just do it… danasin mo…
Don't get me wrong though. It's not a philosophy that condones reckless behavior. I suppose it's a philosophy that teaches active learning. You can only learn so much via lectures, concepts, analysis and thinking things through… the next step from that is learning through experience. Yun ang "lundagin mo beybe!"
Me, personally, I'd rather make my own mistakes and learn from them first-hand rather than avoiding something I really wanted to do just because someone else advised otherwise. I appreciate all the advise; but at the end of the day, I suppose it's really my own life to live and my decisions to make… … … oh… wait… I'm not so sure I'm still talking about cameras here… LOL!
Going back to the cam… sige na nga, lundagin ko na nga si Aida…
…that didn't sound right. Hahaha!
