mmff

December 12, 2007

It's that time of the year again! Time for the MMFF! This is really the only time of the year when I watch local movies in the theaters. Part of it is because there's nothing else to watch, and part of it is to see if there's actually anything promising or hopeful for the local movie industry.

Last year was pretty much a disappointment. The only film I really liked was Judy Ann Santos' and Ryan Agoncillo's "Kasal, Kasali, Kasalo". Kamon… it was funny, they have chemistry, and the story was nice. Sana lang hindi magmukhang pilit itong follow-up na "Sakal, Sakali, Saklolo". Parang pilit na nga yung title eh.

I DID walkout from Enteng Kabisote 3 though… that was the most horrible film I've seen in my entire life. It was like a tv commercial disguised as a film. Ugh. Blatant advertising… no story… horrible. Horrible. HORRIBLE! But still, lo and behold, I am planning to watch EK4. I'm hoping that the backlash against EK3 from last year's MMFF will make the makers of EK4 realize that they have to make a decent film this time around.

Another interesting film is Bong Revilla's "Resiklo". When I saw the poster, I thought "Oh no! A pinoy Transformers movie!" But when I saw the trailer in the theater earlier this week, the movie actually looks good. The special effects don't look cheap and watered-down like most other local films; and more importantly, it's not a "pinoy Transformers" per se. Mau said para daw siyang "Chronicles of Riddick"-meets-"Transformers". Interesting. I also just recently read that this movie is set to be the most expensive Filipino film ever. Hmmmm…

One movie that looks cringe-worthy though is the Jinggoy Estrada starer "Katas Ng Saudi". Yikes… It IS directed by Jose Javier Reyes though, which is a good thing… but still… I don't know about this.

Then there's "Shake, Rattle & Roll 9" (same old, same old, I'd expect) … the Desperate Housewives inspired "Desperadas" (oh no…) … and three other films that I know nothing about: "Bahay Kubo", "Anak Ng Kumander" and "Banal"

Well, that's it. Thank god wala nang "Mano Po X"…

If Enteng Kabisote 4 is at least watchable all the way through, I will be satisfied.

brotherloo, ang second (sub) title nung Bahay Kubo is “a Pinoy Mano Po” so hindi pa rin totally nawawala ang Mano Po sa MMFF… hehehe…
