across the universe and juno
January 19, 2008Just saw Across The Universe. As much as I’m a Beatle fan, I didn’t really like the film. It just felt so muddled up and parts of it were just too literal for my taste. Plus, nothing beats the original songs.
Evan Rachel Wood is purrrrty ^_^
nuff said about that.
On the other hand, Juno (the character from the movie of the same name) is totally adorable! The movie itself is surely one of the best films of 2007 - the script is so clever, witty and it flows like wine. Add to that the brilliant performance of Ellen Page as Juno and voila - amazing indie flick \m/ Ellen Page should have won Best Actress in the Golden Globes imho. Juno is easily the best female character I’ve seen in a 2007 film - she plays it so straight and relaxed that it comes off so funny and realistic at the same time. So much so that it rubs off on the entire film.
Juno rocks \m/
Thumbs way way up for Juno, thumbs down for ATU. ^_^
sweeney’s waiting…
There’s a hole in the world like a great black pit
and it’s filled with people who are filled with shit
and the vermin of the world inhabit it.
Oh yes there is. Anyway….
Me and Mau saw Sweeney Todd several nights ago, and I think it’s safe to say that Mau won’t be eating much meat and red pasta for a while after that. ^_^ Mahina talaga sikmura niya. IMHO, it isn’t gory or disgusting at all… just the thought that the people were made into meat pies. Hehe.
The movie was great. Of course, I hyped it up sooooo much in my head already, which is why I ended up not so WOW-ed; but taken as it, it’s a great film. Typical Tim Burton dark visuals and gloomy atmosphere and great performances all around. Johnny Depp was predictably great in the title role; Helena Bonham Carter was amazing as Mrs Lovett (one of my officemates even said that Helena stole the show); Alan Rickman - solid as always - in the role of the heartless Judge Turpin; and, the young Ed Sanders was a revelation as Tobias Ragg (galing kumanta!). The only performance I didn’t like was the girl in the role of Johanna… "bopek" ba… ^_^
Now this is just me… but I loved the accents. I <3 english accents, and Helena’s was so cute in this film! It’s weird because the accents are primarily the reason why I couldn’t understand some of the lyrics and dialogue in the film, but whattheheck, I still love the accents.
The music is a grower. Each time I listen to the soundtrack, I end up loving the songs more and more. The favorites right now are "The Worst Pies In London", "Not While I’m Around", "Pretty Women", "By The Sea", "Pirelli’s Miracle Elixir" and "A Little Priest" ^_^ Haha andami.
