carrying a beat
January 25, 2008after years of air drumming (just like air guitar) I was finally able to play drums for the first time! \m/ woohoo!!! \m/
it’s not really a band… more like a bunch of friends from work who like jamming together: jay and rj on guitars, sheldon on bass, crab on drums (with me as a substitute) and mote on vocals. this is around their third time jamming together while it was my first to join them.
i was supposed to just hang out, take photos and stuff. but after showing some interest for the instrument, crab handed me the drumsticks eventually and i took the skins for a spin. we were able to complete a song with me on drums - AC/DC’s "You Shook Me All Night Long" - and I don’t think i did half bad! really! well, i’m not sure what my officemates were thinking, but i thought i was able to hold the beat decent enough. considering it was my first time, i’d have to say that this feels promising. i like it! tapon na gitara, drums na to!
come to think of it, it feels comfortable behind that ton of plastic and metal. i always thought that if i were in a band, i’d be most comfortable on rhythym guitar. after last night though, drumming makes an awfully strong case for itself. it seems to suit my shy and snobish low-profile under-the-radar personality… and i freakin’ LOVE a good beat. air drumming beats air guitar any day. plus, it’s fun to go wild on drums and it’s not so hard to improvise with a basic 4-beat.
yun nga lang, mahal ang drums… it takes up a lot of space… and it’s hella noisy. so for now, pang-jamming lang talaga.

among other things
January 21, 2008i mentioned in a recent post that the gym thing was something i intended to do "among other things". well, here are some of those things:
May plano akong magpakabit ng braces. I know it costs a lot, but I’m thinking that if it fixes my biggest physical insecurity, then I guess it’s worth it. Oo, hindi naman talaga ako masyadong insecure sa katabaan ko, but i HATE how crooked my teeth are with a passion.
May plano akong bumalik regularly sa gym at gumaan ng mga 20-25 pounds before the year ends. Hahahaha, parang last year ko pang plano ito ah. Naglolokohan pa nga kami ng friends ko sa office na dapat pang-"Cosmos 69 Hottest Bachelors" na yung katawan ko by the end of 2007 eh. (Cosmo as in Cosmopolitan magazine ha, hindi Cosmos softdrinks ^_^ lol) Poof. Oh well. Trying it again shouldn’t hurt (i mean losing 20-25 pounds… not being in "Cosmos 69 Hottest Bachelors"… hehehe).
May plano akong mag-drive na din, pero syempre kelangan ko pa kumuha ng lisensya tsaka mag-lesson. Wala naman talaga akong hilig pag-drive, pero since meron naman akong pwedeng i-maneho tsaka useful din siya lalo na pag weekends or may kelangan sadyain… edi mag-drive na din, diba? Malamang magcocommute pa din ako to work though; mas practical at mas tipid din yun eh. So weekend driving lang ako malamang.
May plano din akong… tsaka… tsaka… (let’s call these plan A, plan B and plan C as mentioned in the previous post)
So considering what I said in the previous post, ano naman kaya dito sa mga ito ang matutuloy??

across the universe and juno
January 19, 2008Just saw Across The Universe. As much as I’m a Beatle fan, I didn’t really like the film. It just felt so muddled up and parts of it were just too literal for my taste. Plus, nothing beats the original songs.
Evan Rachel Wood is purrrrty ^_^
nuff said about that.
On the other hand, Juno (the character from the movie of the same name) is totally adorable! The movie itself is surely one of the best films of 2007 - the script is so clever, witty and it flows like wine. Add to that the brilliant performance of Ellen Page as Juno and voila - amazing indie flick \m/ Ellen Page should have won Best Actress in the Golden Globes imho. Juno is easily the best female character I’ve seen in a 2007 film - she plays it so straight and relaxed that it comes off so funny and realistic at the same time. So much so that it rubs off on the entire film.
