night b&w
February 11, 2008The pentax forum’s weekly mini-challenge theme is "B&W Street Shooting, People/Buildings" so I came up with these two (the first one is what I posted as my submission):
"Parked For The Night"
"Night Shift"
obama
It’s funny that I feel I’m more involved with US politics than Philippine politics.
I haven’t voted. Ever. Others would say I should be ashamed at myself. But when you live in a country where no one is really worthy of wining… and where politics is a matter of popularity and the capacity to cheat more than anything… and the elections are more chaotic than the Royal Rumble… … …who should be ashamed, really? If I were a kapampangan during the last local election, I would have voted, and would have voted for Ed Panlillo. That was a great win.
Anyway, there you have it. I haven’t voted. Ever. But If I were an american citizen, and a democrat at that, I can assure you that I would be as enthusiastic to vote and be involved in this year’s presidential race as the next young american democrat. Screw the republicans.
Obama seems very promising. Even if this man does not become President, he has done in a few months what others could not do in decades: That is to make Americans proud of their country and confident about their future. And in doing so, he has also given hope to the rest of the world and made them confident about their future.
At least that’s what I think.
This is one kick-ass video.
the saddest songs on earth
February 8, 2008for most of the past two weeks, the entire radiohead disocgraphy has been on heavy rotation playing in a loop on my computer. sometime during this soundtrip, i got this crazy idea. if i were to make a "best of radiohead" compilation CD based on my own musical taste, what would be on it?
so aside from the listening now, i was being conscious of the songs that stirred up something inside more than the others… those that easily stuck in my head… those that i simply loved.
as of now, i’ve done a lot of passes through all of the songs and from 81 tracks, i’ve shortlisted it down to 52. yeah… lol @ "shortlisted". i know. but this is harder that i imagined.
one thing i’ve noticed though… this radiohead band… they sure a bunch of sad bastards. and for some reason, this compilation - MY compilation - is turning out to be a "saddest radiohead songs" CD as well as a "favorites" compilation. i’ve marked a few standout songs and the thing that’s common with most (if not all) of them is that they’re depressingly sad.
if these are the songs that stir something up inside of me and stick to my head and these are what i love more than the others… what does that say about me?
okay, i’ll just put the psychoanalyzing aside for now.
right now, i have a "shortlist" of 52 more radiohead tracks to work with. once this is all over, i’m hoping for around 15-20 songs on my final list.
underdog
February 4, 2008I’m not a football fan by any measure, but I was waiting for this year’s Superbowl with a little more anticipation than before.
Two reasons:
The New England Patriots were on the verge of completing the 2nd ever perfect season in NFL history.
The New York Giants were on the heels of a blistering run to the playoffs; and eventually, an improbable road to the championship.
It was classic David versus Goliath. The underdog versus the overwhelming favorite.
I love rooting for the underdog.
It was just like the 2004 Boston Red Sox against the New York Yankees… the 2002 Ateneo Blue Eages in the UAAP Final Four… the 2007 Golden State Warriors against the Dallas Mavericks…
…and just like all of those, it ended with the underdog on top.
The Giants beat the Patriots 17-14 on a last-minute touchdown to hand the Patriots their first loss of the season and win the NFL championship.
Talk about a storybook ending.
