with or without 3d

April 23, 2008

The other night, we got to watch U2 3D on IMAX in MOA for a 500 peso ticket price. It. Is. Amazing. But no, not because it’s 3D. It’s because it’s U2.

Sure, when the camera gets that closeup of Bono reaching out to the audience, you feel a sense of intimacy that implores you to just reach out as well and grab his hand… and it sure feels like you can. Like you and the band can literally break through the so-called "fourth wall" and interact.

It’s mesmerizing, but after you get past the WOW moments, no amount of 3D experience can rival the raw feeling of the music surging through your soul. Especially with that good a set list and when it’s almost like the experience of watching a live concert - for just 500 pesos.

As the band closes their encore with "With Or Without You", there’s a part where the song kicks into high gear and the intensely lively crowd joins in right on cue. Goosebumps. With or without 3D, that would still give me goosebumps. The medium simply enhances the experience of it all. It’s as good a marriage of technology and raw emotion as you can get, but at the end of the day. A U2 concert is a U2 concert, and that’s what makes it so good to watch.

The only thing that got to me (well, aside from the fact that I didn’t like the 3D glasses) was that I couldn’t let loose inside a theater. I mean… it’s a rock concert for crying out loud!!! I wanted to jump! I wanted to stomp to the beat! I just wanted to move! You simply don’t just sit down and chill during a rock concert. You let loose.

God… I came out of that with so much pent up energy. Maybe that’s why I was still raring to go after 90 minutes on the treadmill last night… but that’s for another blog entry. ^_^

Anyway… the whole experience was just great. Sabi pa nung isa kong officemate: "Parang feeling mo, pwedeng-pwede mong punasan yung pawis ni Bono!"

After leaving the theater, there was a group of friends behind me who also came from the screening. One of the guys said to the other guy: "O ano pare, namamahalan ka pa ba??" To which the other answered, "Sulit!!!"

I can’t rave enough about it. It was exciting… exhilarating… intense.

Parang magandang ulitin… bago siya palitan ng Hannah Montana 3D concert in a week or so. LOL. ^_^

crush

April 21, 2008

na-aliw lang ako sa email conversation topic namin ng iilang kaibigan ko from office today.

question of the day:

"anong tingin nyo pag me crush sayo ang isang tao dahil sa ugali mo daw?"

hehehehe.

i didn’t give it much thought and just threw this answer:

"parang mas gusto ko kung may magkaka-crush sa akin dahil sa itsura ko nalang, pero kung may maiinlove sa akin, dahil sa ugali. hehehehe! =p"

i think about it now and parang tama naman yung sinabi ko. ^_^ that’s how it works for me as well anyway:

crush = looks/physique
love = personality/character

you just gotta get goosebumps with the fact that the Lakers top the west and the Celtics top the east this season. dreaming of the possiblity of another Laker-Celtic showdown after 2 decades is just pure fun for any basketball fan… it’s as much fun as you can have with your clothes on. book it.

and with the playoffs come the predictions. here are mine (just for the first round):

theory of relativity

April 17, 2008

i was thinking about what i wrote a few entries down. y’know, the part about waiting where i quoted an age-old aphorism: "good things come to those who wait."

then i got myself thinking. i realized that there are some situations where the more you wait, the more you let chances pass you by. you wait and wait and wait, but the world still turns without you. life goes on, people move on, and one day you may realize that you don’t know exactly what it is you’re still waiting for.

it’s difficult to really work with quotes, especially those that sound really nice and wise and reasonable, because as sure as the sun will rise, there will be an equally nice-sounding, wise and reasonable quote to contradict it. y’know, just like that bit about "waiting" i just mentioned.

for example, people say that:

"the pen is mightier than the sword," BUT "actions speak louder than words."

"the more the merrier," BUT "two’s company and three’s a crowd."

"birds of the same feather flock together," BUT "opposites attract."

"the clothes maketh the man," BUT "don’t judge a book by its cover."

does anyone still want me to go on? here’s several more for good measure:

"the road to hell is paved with good intentions," BUT "it’s the thought that counts"

"the devil is in the details," BUT "don’t sweat the small stuff"

"the early bird gets the worm," BUT "it’s the second mouse who gets the cheese."

"the end does not justify the means," BUT "all’s well that ends well."

i suppose this further strengthens my belief that there are no rules in life, only guidelines. except for death and paying taxes, nothing is certain. everything depends on the situation. everything is relative.

…i seem to be thinking a little bit too much lately…

stalemate

stalemate is a situation in chess where the player whose turn it is to move has no moves but is not in check. the player is not in check, so there’s no direct danger. however, every move you can make WILL put you in clear and present danger.

that’s gotta suck, right? it’s like there’s nothing wrong right now; but once you make a move, all hell is going to break lose. you can’t progress. you have to be satisfied with your current state. sala sa init, sala sa lamig. damned if you do, damned if you don’t.

at least if a player gets checkmated, there’s a clear winner and a clear loser. for you, it’s either of the two: you win or you lose. good or bad. yin or yang. black or white. at least you know where you stand and the situation is clear. being in a stalemate however is a gray area. nothing is clear. it’s like being in perpetual suspension. there is no resolution.

well… actually… in chess it’s easier: a stalemate is resolved as an automatic draw. in life though - when you’re in a stalemate - you either maintain the status quo and stagnate; or, you make a move and open pandora’s box.

there are no draws in life.

at least that’s how i see it.
